Sri Lankan cricket team made a unique world record in ODI cricket, defeated Australia and South Africa together

 


Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the second match of the Asia Cup 2023 played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday (August 31). After winning the toss and batting first, Bangladesh team was all out for 164 runs in 42.4 overs. In response, Sri Lanka won the match by scoring 165 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in 39 overs. 

Sri Lanka made a special record in this match. Sri Lanka's team has reached the first place in terms of all-out the opposition team for the most consecutive times in ODIs. 2023 This is the 11th consecutive time that Sri Lanka have all out the opposition team in this format. Sri Lanka left behind Australia and South Africa in this list. In 2009–10, Australia and in 2013–14, South Africa had all out the opposing team in 11 consecutive ODI matches. 

Apart from this, for the first time the Sri Lankan team has won 11 consecutive ODI matches. Earlier in 2004 and during 2013-15, 10 consecutive ODI matches were won.

The hero of Sri Lanka's victory was Mathisha Pathirana, who took 4 wickets for 32 runs in 7.4 overs. For which he was also chosen Player of the Match. Pathirana has become the youngest player to take 4 wickets for Sri Lanka in ODIs. By doing this feat at the age of just 20 years and 256 days, he broke a 29-year-old record. Earlier, in the match against Zimbabwe in 1994, veteran bowler Chaminda Vaas had achieved this milestone in 20 years and 280 days.

Sri Lanka will play their next match against Afghanistan on Tuesday (September 5) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
