Students will study politics and religion of Varanasi, BHU will start course on 'Kashi studies'

BHU will start PG course on 'Kashi study'. The course has been approved by the Academic Council. It will be included in the MA History syllabus. In the course, the importance of politics and religion and many others will be taught from Varanasi.

Banaras Hindu University will soon start a new PG course on Kashi studies. Complete preparations for launching the course have been made by BHU. The course will be conducted under the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University. This course will focus on teaching students about the political, religious and social history of Varanasi.

According to media reports, Professor Kaushal Kishore Mishra, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of BHU, confirmed that he has prepared this course, and it will be included in the MA History programme. Students enrolling in this course will pursue MA degree in History with specialization in 'Kashi Studies'. According to the report of The Indian Express, this course is expected to be approved in the upcoming Academic Council meeting.

Who will study?

The curriculum will cover various aspects of the history of Varanasi, including its ancient past, festivals, cultural traditions, religious significance, daily life, river ghats, temples and political and social developments. The role of Varanasi in India's freedom struggle will also be included in the curriculum.

Professor Mishra said that this course has been designed to meet the growing interest in Varanasi across the world in view of the growing global importance of Varanasi and its development as a major religious tourism destination. Varanasi, one of the oldest cities in the world, with its mystical aura and rich religious traditions, art, culture and spirituality has enthralled people from all over the world including tourists, scholars and researchers. After the commencement of the course, it will be easier to understand the importance of Varanasi.

6 new courses will start

Apart from the 'Kashi Studies' course, the Academic Council has also approved many other new courses. These include Malaviya Studies, Diaspora and Global Studies, History of Science and Science Policy, Asian Studies and Archival Studies and Management. The Academic Council of Banaras Hindu University has recently approved six new courses, one of which is dedicated to 'Kashi Studies'. These courses will be conducted under the self-financing programs offered by the Department of History. Professor Mishra has played a key role in developing these courses. He told that the idea of ​​PG course on Varanasi is inspired by Prime Minister Modi's affection towards the city.
