This means that the negative effect of nicotine on people who consume tobacco will be reduced.

The work had started. Under this project, success has been achieved in reducing the amount of nicotine in the tobacco plant grown in the lab by 50 percent. It has been said that the amount of nicotine in the tobacco plant has been reduced through genome editing.

N Kalaiselvi said that this is a good solution for the health of people who consume tobacco. But along with this, CSIR is also trying to reduce the amount of nicotine in the tobacco plant by 70 percent in the laboratory itself. After this, those who will consume tobacco, this tobacco will not cause much harm to their health.
