There is a deep connection between diabetes and blood pressure, know why diabetic patients easily become victims of high blood pressure.

Both high BP and diabetes are lifestyle related diseases. Due to obesity, high cholesterol level, smoking, alcohol consumption and some genetic reasons, the risk of diabetes and hypertension goes together.

Diabetes and Hypertension:  Many types of health problems can occur due to diabetes. In which there is also a problem of high blood pressure. About 50-70 percent of diabetes patients are troubled by the problem of hypertension i.e. high blood pressure. Which can cause serious health problems. Due to this, problems like Kidney Disease, Cardiovascular Disease and Nerve Damage can occur.

Why does BP increase in diabetes?

According to the doctor, there can be many reasons for increasing the risk of hypertension in diabetic patients. Since both high BP and diabetes are lifestyle related diseases. Therefore, due to lack of exercise, obesity, high cholesterol level, smoking, alcohol consumption and some genetic factors, the risk of diabetes and hypertension can go hand in hand.

Risk of increasing hypertension in diabetes

Insulin resistance

Due to some biochemical conditions, diabetes increases the risk of hypertension. In such a situation, insulin resistance can occur, which is seen in type 2 diabetes. Due to insulin resistance, the body does not respond properly to insulin hormones and the glucose level in the blood increases. Accumulation of excess salt in the body and high cholesterol level can also cause insulin resistance. Due to this the veins become hard and BP increases.

Effect on heart nerves

Hypertension in diabetes can also cause internal damage. Due to increase in glucose level in the blood, blood vessels, nerves and kidneys start getting damaged. Due to this, the veins start swelling and they start narrowing. Due to which blood circulation can be affected. Which can also increase the risk of heart disease along with high BP. The sympathetic nervous system can also get excited in diabetes. Due to this, there may be fluctuations in the level of hormones in the body, which can cause hypertension.
