Turmeric became expensive by 180% in four months, due to this the prices increased

By the time one thing becomes cheap in the country, another thing becomes expensive. While the prices of tomatoes and green vegetables have fallen, the price of turmeric has reached sky high. The price of turmeric in the wholesale market has reached Rs 18,000 per quintal.

With the arrival of monsoon, inflation has increased in the country. Most of the food items including rice, flour, pulses, sugar and onion have become expensive. But what is making the general public cry the most is the rising prices of spices. It is being said that within the last four months, the price of turmeric has increased by 180%. Due to this, the price of turmeric has reached the seventh sky. Currently the rate of turmeric in the wholesale market is Rs 18,000 per quintal. Due to this, the kitchen budget of the common people has been spoiled.

Actually, turmeric is a very useful spice. Without this we cannot even imagine delicious vegetables. Consuming it keeps the body healthy and fresh. Therefore, turmeric is a spice which is used by the poorest of the poor and the richest of the rich. In such a situation, due to increase in prices, the household budget of the poorest people has been damaged. But now the real reason for the increase in the price of turmeric has come to light.

There has been a direct impact on the prices of turmeric.

It is being said that in the last season, farmers had sown turmeric in 20 to 30 percent less area. This has led to a significant decline in production, due to which prices have increased. Apart from this, unseasonal rains caused huge damage to turmeric crops in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. This affected the production, which had a direct impact on the prices of turmeric.

Prices may fallt

At the same time, experts say that due to the effect of El Nino, there has been less than average rainfall in many areas. This also reduced the production of turmeric, which played an important role in increasing the prices. At the same time, turmeric has also been exported from the country on a large scale. Between April and June 2023, the export of turmeric from the country increased by 16.87 percent to a total of 57,775.30 tonnes. At the same time, the production of turmeric in South India has decreased by 45 to 50 percent this time. Let us tell you that India imports about 1.50 crore bags of turmeric. But so far this year, the production of turmeric in the country has been only 55-56 lakh bags. However, it will increase further in the coming festive season. After this the prices may fall.
