Vaman Jayanti is celebrated on the Dwadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. On this day, Lord Vishnu was born on earth in Vaman incarnation. Vaman Dev is considered to be the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. There is special significance in observing fast on this day. Whoever observes a fast and worships Vaman Dev with a true heart, gets relief from all sins and happiness and prosperity resides in the house.

This year, the Dwadashi tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month is starting on 26th September at 5 am and will end on 27th September at 01:45 am. In such a situation, the fast of Vaman Jayanti will be observed on 26th September only. It is believed that Lord Vishnu took Indra Dev to return the secret of heaven and to break the pride of the extremely powerful demon king Bali, the grandson of Prahlad. Let us know what is the mythological story related to this-

Gods and Goddesses appealed for help

Demon king Bali captured all the three worlds with his power and also snatched away the heavenly world from Lord Indra. King Bali was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and also did a lot of charity, but despite this, he became so proud of his power that as soon as he became the lord of heaven, he started troubling all the gods and goddesses. Fed up with his atrocities, all the gods and goddesses appealed to Lord Vishnu for help. Shri Hari Vishnu assured him that he would free all three worlds from the grip of King Bali. To fulfill his promise, he was born on earth as the son of Mother Aditi and Rishi Kashyap on the twelfth day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month in Tretayuga.

The dwarf approached King Bali in the guise of a Brahmin.

After this, he took the form of a dwarf Brahmin and reached King Bali. He had an umbrella in one hand and wood in the other. He asked King Bali to donate three steps of land for his living. Guru Shukracharya also warned King Bali before giving such a promise, but despite this, King Bali promised to give three paces of land to the Brahmin's son. After this, Vaman Dev assumed such a huge form that he measured the entire earth with one foot and the entire heaven with the other foot. After this, when there was nothing left for the third foot, King Bali moved his head forward and asked Vaman Dev to step on it. Lord Vishnu was very pleased with Bali's commitment and made him the king of the underworld. After this, as soon as Vaman Dev placed his foot on the head of King Bali, he immediately reached the underworld.
