When giants like Tata, Mahindra do not find any heir, who runs the empire worth billions?

Big business giants like Tata and Mahindra have built business empires worth billions of dollars, but sometimes their children are not willing to take over the business and sometimes they do not have any heir at all. Then who handles their business empire?

India is one of the few countries in the world where most of the corporates i.e. big businesses are run by families. Shareholders and board members of companies keep changing, but to maintain the confidence of investors, the head of the company is always someone from the family. In such a situation, when big corporates like Tata or Mahindra do not find any heir to take over the business, then how does the business empire run? The latest case is that of Cipla, whose history is linked to making India the capital of generic medicines.

If we look at the country's biggest business empire i.e. Tata Group, Ratan Tata had no heir. Therefore, outside the family, Cyrus Mistry was given the command of the group. When Tata had a rift with Cyrus Mistry, N. It is Chandrasekaran who handles the Tata Group. However, the ultimate ownership of Tata Group is still with the family members, because Tata Trust has been formed under the chairmanship of Ratan Tata and the heir of this trust is yet to be announced.

Similarly, if we look at Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra has two daughters. But he is not in a leading position in any of the group companies. Anand Mahindra's friend Uday Kotak has recently resigned from the post of MD and CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank. In their place, professionals will now manage the bank. Whereas regarding what will be the responsibility of his two sons, he says that it will depend on the decision of the board.

Cipla is selling business

The heirs of Yusuf Hameed, chairman of Cipla, the country's third largest pharmaceutical company, have no interest in taking over the business. So now at the age of 87, Yusuf Hameed is trying to sell his business. Recently we saw a similar story in the case of Bisleri also. There were reports that Jayanti Chauhan, daughter of Bisleri owner Ramesh Chauhan, was not interested in the business. Ramesh Chauhan expressed his desire that Tata Group should buy Bisleri, but the matter did not work out. Then later, Jayanti also returned to business in a dramatic manner.

Majumdar has no heir

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, one of India's top business women, is today the owner of Biocon Group worth Rs 32000 crore. Her husband also died in October last year and she has no children. Therefore, the situation is not yet clear as to who will be the heir of Biocon.

On the contrary, if we look at the country's largest company Reliance Industries, then Mukesh Ambani, taking a lesson from the mistake of his father Dhirubhai Ambani, has already started handing over the responsibilities of the business to his three children. Although he has once again been made the Chairman of the Board till 2029, Isha, Akash and Anant have also been included in the Board.

Not only this, there is news that Reliance Industries will be made a holding company and the rest of the business will be absorbed into it. This means Mukesh Ambani can follow the path of forming a trust like Tata. However, no final decision has been taken regarding who will take the final decisions among the three children of Ambani.
