Now you may have to pay to run Facebook and Instagram. Mark Zuckerberg's company Meta is about to launch a paid version of its social media platforms - Instagram and Facebook. Paid subscription based version is expected to be launched in Europe. Due to this, users will not see ads while using both these platforms. Actually, according to European law, no online platform can use people's data without their consent.
The ad system of Facebook and Instagram is completely dependent on people's data. Meta runs advertisements through people's data, from which it earns huge income. By collecting data about what people are watching, what they like, Facebook and Instagram run ads.
Paid version will remain ad-free
After the launch of the paid version, ads will not be shown to the users. According to the New York Times report, Meta can do this because of the monitoring and investigation of the European Union. However, Meta has not confirmed the news of bringing a paid version.
Free version will also be available
The free version of Meta will also continue in Europe in which ads will be shown. It is possible that after the paid version, Meta may also get relief in the ongoing investigation regarding privacy policy in the European Union.
Heavy fine imposed on Meta
Let us tell you that Meta had lost the case against the German government in July 2019. In this case, Meta was banned from collecting user data without their consent.
At the same time, EU anti-trust regulators have imposed a fine of about Rs 77.51 lakh on Meta every day since August 14. Meta collected the data of the users and then using this data, showed advertisements to the users accordingly. Norway Data Protection Authority has imposed this fine on Meta for violating the privacy of users. This fine has been imposed for the next three months.
Till now there is no news about the price of subscription. There is no information about whether the plans of Facebook and Instagram will be the same or different. If Meta's subscription model works, it can be implemented in other countries as well.
