According to the report of the Food and Agriculture Organization, global sugar prices have reached a 13-year high in September. Its impact is visible in India due to the rising price of sugar in the global market. Due to El Nino, sugarcane crop in India and Thailand has been affected. Due to which the prices of sugar have increased so much. Earlier in the year 2010, a rise in sugar prices was seen.

At the same time, according to Consumer Ministry officials, the ex-mill price of Maharashtra has currently increased to Rs 3,630-3,670 per quintal, which was Rs 3,520-3550 per quintal on August 1, in Uttar Pradesh also by about Rs 100 in a month. There is a possibility of increase per quintal. This means that the price of sugar may increase by Rs 1 per kg.

When will we get relief?

F&O's sugar price index has increased for the second consecutive month. Before the record rise in the month of September, a rise in this index was seen in the month of August also. According to experts, the reason for this is El Nino. Due to which sugarcane production has deteriorated. If sugarcane production is affected then sugar production and prices will be directly affected. At present, there is no sign of relief in sugar prices. There is no sign of people getting relief from expensive sugar even during the festive season.
