Vijayadashami i.e. Dussehra is celebrated every year on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. This festival is celebrated on Dashami Tithi, nine days after Durga Puja. On this day, the defeat of Ravana and the victory of Lord Shri Ram is celebrated as Ravana Dahan. On this day, effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhakarna and son Meghnath are made and burnt at various places in the city and some people become Shri Ram and Lakshman. To mark the defeat of Ravana, his statue is burnt by the arrows of Shri Ram on this day. With this we call Ravana Dahan.
