Who is Nargis Mohammadi?
Nargis Mohammadi was an Iranian human rights activist and vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC). She has been an advocate for abolishing the death penalty in Iran and protecting the rights of prisoners. Mohammadi has been jailed several times for her human rights work.

Has been honored with many awards
Nargis Mohammadi has been outspoken against the use of imprisonment and the mistreatment of women in Iranian prisons. Mohammadi has received international recognition for his activism, including awards such as the Per Anger Award, the Olof Palme Award, the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Award, and the PEN/Barbie Freedom to Write Award. She was also named as one of the BBC's 100 Inspiring and Influential Women. Despite facing many challenges and prison, Mohammadi continues to fight for human rights and democracy in Iran.
Mohammadi is also the deputy head of the Defenders of Human Rights Centre, a non-governmental organization led by 2003 Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi. The Nobel Prize carries a cash prize of 11 million Swedish kronor (about 1 million US dollars). Winners also receive an 18-carat gold medal and diploma at the awards ceremony in December.
