SC shocked Abdullah Azam, court refused to stay the sentence

The Supreme Court has refused to grant interim relief to Abdullah Azam. Abdullah Azam, who was convicted in the protest case, had demanded from the court that the Supreme Court should order the lower court of Uttar Pradesh not to give any decision until it is confirmed that he is a minor.

The troubles of Abdullah Azam, son of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, are increasing. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court refused to grant interim relief to Abdullah Azam. Abdullah Azam, who was convicted in the protest case, had demanded from the court that the Supreme Court should order the lower court of Uttar Pradesh not to give any decision until it is confirmed that he is a minor.

On September 26, the Supreme Court had asked the District Judge of Moradabad to decide on the aspect of Abdullah Azam being a minor as per the Juvenile Justice Act, and then send the decision taken to the Supreme Court for further consideration.

'The sky will not fall if the order is not passed'

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal presented his side on behalf of Abdullah Azam in the court. He told the bench of Justice MM Sundaresh and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra that until the report is presented on Abdullah's claim of being a minor, the Supreme Court should order the Allahabad High Court not to proceed further in the criminal case. Sibal also said that the sky will not fall if the High Court does not pass the final order.

Court did not give relief to Abdullah

Even after hearing Sibal's arguments, the court did not give relief to Abdullah Azam. The court said that there is no reason to pass any interim order at this stage. Earlier, the Supreme Court had asked the Moradabad District Court to find out Abdullah's claim of being a minor and send his report.

Angered by police checking, they were sitting on strike

It is noteworthy that in the year 2008, the police had stopped Abdullah's car for checking in Chhajlat of Moradabad, after which he started protesting along with his supporters. The police took action and took Abdullah Azam into custody along with his supporters. After which the Allahabad High Court found him guilty in the case and sentenced him to two years' imprisonment. During this period his MLA membership was also cancelled.
