Sleep Apnea disorder: There are 10 crore people in India who have sleep disorder. This has been revealed in a research by AIIMS New Delhi. Research has shown that 10 crore people in the country are suffering from obstructive sleep apnea. In this disease, breathing does not occur properly during sleep and snoring also occurs. Because of this a person is not able to sleep well. About 11 percent of the adult population in the country has this problem. AIIMS has prepared this data by doing 6 research in the last two decades. Research has shown that cases of obstructive sleep apnea are occurring more in men. Because of this, I am not sleeping properly at night. This is also affecting the day to day work. Due to OCA, the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease is also increasing. The research has been published in the Journal of Sleep Medicine.
According to Dr. Anant Mohan, Professor in the Department of Pulmonology at AIIMS New Delhi, who conducted this research, the research has revealed that 10 crore people in India have this sleeping disorder. Of these, about 5 crore have severe symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. Due to this disease, obesity is also increasing in men and women.
In severe cases, there is a risk of the condition worsening due to OSA. Due to OSA, there is also the problem of snoring late at night, due to which sleep is not complete. Because of this people feel sleepy during the day. The work of working people also gets affected due to sleep. In many cases, this disease also spoils the mental health of the person. There is also a risk of stroke, high blood pressure and metabolic disease. In such a situation, there is a need to increase awareness about this disease.
Who are at greater risk?
Dr. Mohan explains that elderly people are more at risk of obstructive sleep apnea. Due to sleep disturbance, other parts of the body are also affected. Apart from the elderly, people suffering from obesity are also at higher risk of this disease.
