The Supreme Court has issued a notice on the petition of former UP MLA Mukhtar Ansari. The court has issued a notice on Ansari's appeal and sought a reply from the UP government within four weeks. Mukhtar Ansari's lawyer Kapil Sibal said that all the accused were acquitted in the case. But only Mukhtar Ansari has been sentenced.
The High Court had sentenced Ansari to seven years' imprisonment for threatening the jailer and pointing a revolver at him. Mukhtar has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against this case. At the same time, the lawyer representing the UP government in this case has said that there are more than 50 cases against Mukhtar Ansari. Gangster Act is also imposed on him.
In which case was Mukhtar convicted
In fact, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court had sentenced mafia Mukhtar Ansari to seven years of imprisonment under three different sections. The allegation was that he had threatened to kill the jailer if the people who came to meet Mukhtar were searched in the jail. Apart from this, a gun was also pointed at the jailer.
Was found guilty under several sections
Apart from threatening the jailer, the Allahabad High Court had found Ansari guilty under sections 353, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sentenced him to jail. However, now the Supreme Court has stayed the decision in this case and has issued a notice to the UP government on Ansari's appeal against the High Court order.
Ansari has a history of involvement in criminal activities and is currently lodged in Banda jail in Uttar Pradesh. Many other cases including murder case are also pending against him, the hearing of which is currently going on in various courts.
