Uproar over non-veg food on veg table in IIT Bombay, student fined Rs 10,000


The uproar over non-veg food in the mess of IIT Bombay is increasing. The Mess Council has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the students. Students associated with Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle APPSC have protested against this policy of the college.

IIT Bombay, one of the top engineering colleges of India, is in the news these days for its food policy. Actually, a fine of Rs 10,000 has been imposed on the students of IIT Bombay for eating non-veg food in the mess. IIT Bombay has accused the students of not following the food policy.

There is a separate table for vegetarian food in the hostel of IIT Bombay. Students were fined for eating non-veg food on this table. Now this matter is not coming to an end. Questions are being raised on the policy of IIT Bombay on social media.

What is the matter?

It is a combined mess of Hostels 12, 13 and 14 of IIT Bombay. In this mess, 6 tables of veg food are kept by the council for the students. It has been prepared on the basis of Jain menu. On September 28, students of Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle occupied this table and started protesting against keeping the wage table separate.

The demand of the students was that by keeping the wage table, Muslim, Dalit and tribal students were being separated. When the mess committee came to know about this, action was taken against the students. The action taken against these students is being protested.

Mess Council issued notice

The Mess Council of IIT Bombay has issued an important notice in the name of students. The council says that if any student does not follow the food policy of the college, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed against them.

Also, strict action will be taken against those students who spoil the atmosphere in the mess. The Mess Council has issued a notice in this regard. Students associated with Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle APPSC have protested against the college rules by sharing posts on social media.
