This fort is situated on the northern edge of the Prabal Plateau in the Sahyadri Mountains near Mumbai. You may also not believe it but its height above sea level is 2,300 feet. The road is dangerous

To reach this fort you will have to climb for a day. The path to reach here is also very difficult. You will need support to walk on the path made of rocks, but once you reach the top, seeing the surrounding view, you will feel that you have reached heaven.

Where is this fort

This fort is just 47 kilometers away from Mumbai. The trek to reach Kalavantin Fort starts from Thakurwadi village. To reach here one has to go to Panvel from Mumbai by train. After reaching the station you will have to take a bus. It will take you one hour to reach Thakurwadi. After leaving the station, you will get a shared rickshaw on Mumbai-Pune Expressway. From here, after reaching Shedung Patha, you will take a sharing auto rickshaw to reach Thakurwadi.

Take care of health

Stairs have been made on this path by cutting rocks. Steep climbs will be found at many places here. One must be in good physical health to go here. Do not plan to visit here during the rainy season. October to March is the best time to go.

If you are planning to travel alone then it will cost you up to Rs 150 for local people, whereas travel groups can charge you Rs 800 to Rs 1000. Some companies also provide overnight stay and camping facilities at the fort itself.
