The Supreme Court has today rejected the petition demanding construction of walls on both sides of Ram Setu and declaring the bridge as national heritage. This PIL was filed by Ashok Pandey, President of an organization named Hindu Personal Law Board. The petitioner had demanded that instructions should be given to build a wall up to 100 meters and if possible up to one kilometer above Ram Setu in the sea near Dhanushkodi.

During the hearing of the petition, the Supreme Court asked how a wall could be built on both sides? On this the petitioner said that one side should be made. Later the Supreme Court rejected this PIL. The Supreme Court says that this is an administrative decision, so how can the court give instructions to build the wall? This petition came up for hearing before the bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia.

Refusal to tag PIL with another petition
The Supreme Court also refused to tag this PIL with another petition, which had sought a direction to declare the monument as a national heritage.
Salvation is guaranteed only by seeing the bridge – petition
The petition said that the bridge is generally known as Shri Ram Setu and only the darshan of the bridge guarantees salvation. The petition said that the present Indian government claims to be working on the agenda of bringing Ram Raj, which is not possible unless the darshan of Ram Setu is managed by erecting a wall.
