World Cup 2023: De Kock, Dussen and Markram shine in South Africa's victory, defeating Sri Lanka by 102 runs

 


In the fourth match of the World Cup 2023, South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 102 runs with the help of centuries from Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram. For Sri Lanka, Charith Asalanka, Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka played half-century innings but it was not enough for the team to win. 

Batting first, South Africa posted a huge score of 428 runs on the scoreboard after losing 5 wickets in 50 overs. Rassie van der Dussen scored the most runs for South Africa. He scored a century of 108 runs in 110 balls with the help of 13 fours and 2 sixes. Whereas Aiden Markram played a century inning of 106 runs in 54 balls with the help of 14 fours and 3 sixes. He scored a century in 49 balls. This is the fastest century in World Cup history. 

Apart from him, Quinton de Kock faced 84 balls and scored a century of 100 runs with the help of 12 fours and 3 sixes. De Kock and Dussen made a partnership of 204 (174) runs. Markram made a partnership of 78 (36) with Heinrich Klaasen (32 in 20 balls). In the end, Miller played an unbeaten inning of 39 runs in 21 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes. Dussen and Markram made a partnership of 50 (39). Dilshan Madushanka took maximum 2 wickets for Sri Lanka. Kasun Rajitha, Dunith Vellalaghe and Mathisha Pathirana took one wicket each. 

Chasing the target, the Sri Lankan team was reduced to a score of 326 in 44.5 overs. Charith Asalanka scored the most runs for Sri Lanka. He scored a half-century of 79 runs in 65 balls with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes. Kusal Mendis scored a half-century of 76 runs in 42 balls with the help of 4 fours and 8 sixes. 

Whereas captain Dasun Shanaka played a half-century inning of 68 runs in 62 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. Shanaka and Asalanka made a partnership of 82 (72) runs. In the end Kasun Rajitha contributed 33(31) runs. Gerald Coetzee took maximum 3 wickets for South Africa. Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj got 2 wickets each. Ngidi got a lungi.
