The water crisis is deepening in the world, but South Asia is most affected by it, where 347 million children are facing severe water shortage. This has been revealed in the United Nations report. It has also been told that the reason for this serious crisis is climate change. According to the report, one out of every three children in the world is suffering from water shortage.
South Asia includes seven countries, these include Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, some people also include Afghanistan in them. According to the United Nations report, more than a quarter of the world's children live in these countries, which are struggling with climate change-related disasters like floods and droughts.
Most children struggling with water are from South Asia
According to the United Nations report, the region in the world suffering most from water shortage is South Asia. About 55 percent of the children here are suffering from water shortage. According to the report of the United Nations Children's Aid Organization (UNICEF), climate change is disrupting weather patterns and rainfall, leading to water shortage. UNICEF report is claiming that due to unexpected changes in climate change, water shortage in South Asia will increase further and the situation will get worse.
East and South Africa at second place
It has been claimed in the UNICEF report that after South Asia, the areas most affected by water in the world are East and South Africa. 130 million children here are facing severe water shortage. The report also states that 1 in every 3 children in the world lives in an area where there is severe water shortage, the number of such children worldwide is approximately 739 million.
This is the condition of India
If we talk about India alone, here too the water crisis is continuously deepening, this was revealed in a report of the United Nations last month. It was told in the report that many states of India are in the grip of drought, it may deepen further in the northwestern regions by 2025. According to the Interconnected Disaster Risk Report 2023, the whole world is facing four threats, the first of which is the shortage of groundwater, apart from this, space debris, melting of glaciers and heat are included.
UN Climate Change will be held in Dubai
This report of UNICEF has been released just before the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Dubai at the end of this month. According to UNICEF, the conference will put pressure on the international community to take necessary steps so that the coming generations do not have to face water shortage. According to UNICEF South Asia chief Sanjay Wijesekera, safe water is a basic human right.
