The country's Information Technology (IT) Minister Ashwini Vaishnav visited the Tata Electronics plant in Hosur near Bengaluru on Monday. During this, he said that 99.2 percent of mobile phones used in India are made in the country. The Union Minister said that the country's mobile manufacturing industry has crossed the figure of $ 44 billion. This is the success of Make in India programme. The minister said that great progress has also been made in the semiconductor program, very soon, we will go further in this field.
In the press conference, he gave information about the progress made by India in the field of electronics manufacturing. During this, he also fiercely targeted the opposition leaders. He quipped that some opposition leaders still think that mobile phones used in the country are being imported. They do not know that 99.2 percent of mobile phones used in India today are manufactured in the country.
Mobile manufacturing industry crosses 44 billion dollars
The Union Minister said that the country's mobile manufacturing industry has crossed the figure of $ 44 billion. Besides, the value chain is also increasing. At present there are many manufacturing units in the country. India has set an ambitious target of manufacturing electronics products worth $300 billion by 2025-26. To encourage equipment manufacturers, generous incentives are being offered through Production Linked Allowance (PLI) schemes. Vaishnav said that the country's manufacturing capacity is surpassing China.
Increase in production of iPhone devices
Last year, Apple significantly increased the local production of its flagship iPhone devices in India. The Cupertino tech giant plans to increase manufacturing in India to $40 billion in the next 4-5 years. The minister said that the company has crossed the Rs 7 billion production mark in the last financial year.
Big change came in 9 and a half years
In the last 9.5 years, we have reached a level at which exports of electronics products are increasing. Good progress has also been made in our semiconductor manufacturing. The minister said that the construction of chip manufacturing units is going well. Recently, Google announced plans to manufacture its Pixel smartphones in India. He said that this will give a big boost to the country's ambitions of becoming a global manufacturing hub.
