After the poor performance of Pakistan cricket team in World Cup 2023, Pakistan Cricket Board is continuously taking tough decisions. After the resignation of captain Babar Azam, new captains were announced and now on Friday, November 17, PCB has declared former cricketer Wahab Riaz as the chief selector of Pakistan cricket team.
The former left-arm fast bowler had announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2023 after failing to make a place in the team. Wahab Riaz, 38, represented the country in 27 Tests, 91 ODIs and 36 T20 matches for Pakistan and played his last international match in December 2020. Known as one of the fastest fast bowlers in Pakistan cricket, Riaz took 237 international wickets.
After getting the big responsibility by PCB, Riaz thanked PCB through a video message. He thanked PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf for giving him the responsibility, calling it a 'challenging task'. Riaz's first task will be to select players for the upcoming three-match Test series against Australia starting on December 14.
Riaz told the PCB media, "I am honored to assume the role of Chairman of the National Men's Selection Committee and I express my gratitude to the Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Mr. Zaka Ashraf, for entrusting me with this responsibility. Former players in cricket matters The inclusion is commendable and I look forward to working for the betterment of Pakistan cricket. Leading the selection committee is a challenging task. We have an important Australia tour coming up which is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle and against New Zealand It is part of a T20 series which will be important for us in our preparation for the T20 World Cup."
