Chhath Puja:
Chhath festival is the biggest festival of Sun worship in Hindu religion. In this festival, Chhathi Mai along with Lord Surya is worshiped with rituals. This is considered one of the most difficult fasts.

Chhath Puja 2023 Day 1st: The great festival Chhath, celebrated with great devotion in UP, Bihar and Jharkhand, has started today on Friday, 17th November and this festival will end on 20th November. People eagerly wait for this Chhath festival. Chhath is that occasion when people living in cities away from their villages come to their homes. During Chhath, the whole family unites and celebrates this festival. In such a situation, people have a different feeling regarding Chhath Puja. Chhath Puja, which lasts for four days, ends with Nahay-Khay on the first day, Kharna on the second day, Sandhya Arghya on the third day and Usha Arghya on the fourth day.

Chhath Mahaparva is the biggest festival of Sun worship. In this festival, Chhathi Mai along with Lord Surya is worshiped with rituals. This is considered one of the most difficult fasts. People who believe in this festival wait for it throughout the year. There is a religious belief that the fast of Chhath is observed for the wish of having a child, for the well-being, happiness, prosperity and longevity of the child.

Today, 17th November, Chhat Puja is starting from Nahay-Khay. Today sunrise will be at 06:45, while sunset will be at 05:27 in the evening. Let us tell you that in the tradition of Nahay Khay of Chhath Puja, the fasting people, after bathing in the river, wear new clothes and eat vegetarian food.

First day of Chhath – Nahay Khay

The first day of Chhath festival is Nahay Khay. On this day, fasting women wake up early in the morning, take bath etc. and wear clean or new clothes.

After this, after offering water to Lord Sun, she eats satvik food.

Nahay Khay food is prepared without onion and garlic.

On this day, pumpkin vegetable, gourd, gram dal and rice i.e. chawan are eaten.

The food prepared on the day of Nahay Khay is first served to the fasting women. Only after this the family members can have food.

Do not consume garlic and onion even by mistake on the day of Nahay Khay, otherwise your fast may be broken.

Family members should also eat only satvik food on this day.

Importance of Chhath festival

This fast of Chhath Puja is considered very difficult. In this, one observes this fast for 36 hours following strict rules. People observing Chhath Puja fast keep waterless fast for more than twenty-four hours. The main fast of this festival is observed on Shashthi Tithi, but Chhath Puja starts from Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha in Kartik month, which ends on Saptami Tithi after offering Arghya at sunrise in the morning.
