New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that deepfakes are one of the biggest threats that the Indian system is facing at present. He said that such videos can create anarchy in the society. The Prime Minister also urged the media to educate and make people aware about this growing problem. PM Modi said this while addressing the journalists at the Diwali Milan program organized at BJP Headquarters in Delhi.
Haven't played Garba since childhood: PM Modi
The Prime Minister said that both the public and the media need to be very cautious when it comes to misuse of artificial intelligence in cases like deepfakes. Deepfakes are posing major challenges to the integrity of electoral democracy in the ongoing assembly elections. In such cases it has become difficult to differentiate between fake and genuine video clips. In his address, Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the Garba video in which PM Modi is shown dancing Garba among women. This morphed Garba video is going quite viral. PM Modi said that he has 'not played Garba' since childhood.
However, later fact check revealed that the person dancing in Garba is not PM Modi but someone else. It was being claimed about this video that this is a video of PM Modi playing Garba during Navratri. This video is becoming quite viral on social media.
Cases of deepfake videos have increased in recent times
Cases of deepfake videos have increased in recent times. A few days ago, Rashmika Mandanna's deepfake video went viral. Similarly, the picture of Sachin Tendulkar's daughter Sara Tendulkar and Shubman Gill was morphed and made viral. Kajol and Katrina Kaif have also become victims of deepfakes. After the advent of Artificial Intelligence, cases of deepfakes have increased rapidly.
AI helps a lot in deepfakes
In fact, with the help of Artificial Intelligence, any picture, video or audio can be made completely different. This picture, video or audio does not seem less than the original in any sense. After seeing and hearing this, people believe it to be true. That's why PM Modi said that this is one of the biggest threats.
