2nd ODI: Soumya Sarkar's inning of 169 runs went in vain, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh and took an unassailable lead in the series.

 


New Zealand vs Bangladesh ODI: On the basis of brilliant half-centuries from Henry Nicholls and Will Young, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the second ODI match played at Saxton Oval, Nelson on Wednesday. With this victory, New Zealand has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Soumya Sarkar was adjudged player of the match for her brilliant century.

After losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Bangladesh had a bad start, scoring a total of 80 runs, Anamul Haq, captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto, Liton Das and Tauheed Hridoy were out and returned to the pavilion. After this, Soumya Sarkar made a partnership of 91 runs with Mushfiqur Rahim for the fifth wicket.

Sarkar played the second highest innings in Bangladesh ODI history and scored 169 runs in 151 balls with the help of 22 fours and 2 sixes. Apart from this, Rahim contributed 45 runs in 57 balls. Six players of the team could not reach double figures. Due to which Bangladesh was all out for 291 runs in 49.5 overs.

For New Zealand, William O'Rourke and Jacob Duffy took 3-3 wickets, Adam Milne, Josh Clarkson and Aditya Ashok took 1-1 wicket.

In response, New Zealand won at the loss of 3 wickets in 46.2 overs. Nicholls, who was the top scorer, played an inning of 95 runs in 99 balls with the help of 8 fours and 1 six. Whereas Will Young scored 89 runs in 94 balls, in which he hit 8 fours and 2 sixes. Apart from this, Rachin Ravindra scored 45 runs in 33 balls, captain Tom Latham scored 34 runs in 32 balls.

For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmood took 2 wickets and Shoriful Islam took 1 wicket.
