West Indies wicketkeeper batsman Shane Dowrich has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. Dowrich was selected in the team for the ODI series against England. Now he is out of this series and no replacement has been announced by West Indies at present.
Dowrich made his international debut in the year 2015 in a test match against Australia. He played 35 Test matches in his career, with the only ODI match coming against Bangladesh in 2019. He was going to make a comeback in this format from the series against England. Dowrich played his last match for West Indies in December 2020 against New Zealand. He has 1560 runs in his name in Tests and only 6 runs in ODIs.
Cricket West Indies Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe said, "We would like to thank Shane for his contribution during his time playing for the West Indies. He was a very disciplined and hard-working cricketer who always gave his best both in front of and behind the stumps."
Dowrich scored 3 centuries and 9 half-centuries in his Test career. In 2019, he played an important role in West Indies winning the Wisden Trophy by scoring a Test century in the match played against England in his home country Barbados.
