BBL: Tim David's bat remained silent, Australian player scored an unbeaten half-century and led his team to victory

 


In the fifth match of the 13th season of the Big Bash League (BBL 2023-24), Sydney Sixers defeated Hobart Hurricanes by 6 wickets and registered their second consecutive win. Playing first, Hobart Hurricanes scored 135/8 in 20 overs, in reply Sydney Sixers scored 139/4 in 19.2 overs. Daniel Hughes (50 balls 60*) of Sydney Sixers was adjudged Player of the Match for his match-winning innings.

Hobart Hurricanes made a bright start after winning the toss and batting first. Caleb Jewell along with Matthew Wade (11) added 34 runs but Wade departed in the third over. Jewell scored 42 runs in 24 balls and along with Ben McDermott took the score to 56. From here Sam Hain (3), Tim David (1) and McDermott (11) were out in quick succession, due to which the score became 69/5. Corey Anderson and Chris Jordan together took the score beyond 100. Jordan played an inning of 16 runs and Anderson played an inning of 17 runs. Patrick Dooley also contributed 19 runs and was out on the score of 128. Captain Nathan Ellis remained unbeaten on 2 and Peter Hatzoglu remained unbeaten on 5 runs. Tom Curran took the maximum of three wickets for Sydney Sixers.

Chasing the target, Sydney Sixers got the first blow at the score of 20 and opener James Vince was out in the third over after scoring 5 runs in 8 balls. Josh Philip also left in the sixth over at the score of 40 after scoring 16 runs. Daniel Hughes, along with captain Moises Henriques (20) and Jordan Silk (23), took the score past 100. Hughes completed his half-century in 45 balls and returned unbeaten till the end, leading his team to victory. Tom Curran also remained unbeaten after scoring 5 runs. Corey Anderson took two wickets for Hobart Hurricanes.
