Maxwell said, "I haven't given up; I think I have to be realistic about the timing of the way I am playing white-ball cricket. You play a World Cup and then you play some Shield cricket. You don't play, you play white-ball cricket at the end of the summer and don't play any Shield cricket, so that's really how it's been for the last 10 years of my career."
Two-time ODI World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting also supported Maxwell's return to Test form, saying, "I can see him coming back into the Test line-up because he shows such an all-round game in those conditions." That innings of 201 not out (201) in that match against India is the most remarkable ODI innings I have ever seen. I've been to a lot of games, watched a lot of games, played a lot of games, I've never seen anything like that."
After missing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of India this year due to a foot injury, the Australian selectors have asked Maxwell to be included in their plans for the Test tour of Sri Lanka in 2025, the report said. Maxwell has shown his form with two centuries in the World Cup - an unbeaten innings of 201 runs off 40 balls against Netherlands and against Afghanistan, as well as a century off 47 balls in the third T20 International against India in Guwahati.
