Six key players taking part in the Test series in Bangladesh have been rested, which include regular ODI captain Kane Williamson, Test captain Tim Southee, Darryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Glenn Phillips and Devon Conway. All these players were also part of the World Cup, in which New Zealand had reached the semi-finals.
Apart from this, leg spinner Ish Sodhi will play only the first ODI and after that he will be given a break as per the pre-planned plan. In Sodhi's absence, Aditya Ashok has got a place in the squad for the last two matches only.
The team will be led by Tom Latham and seven players from the World Cup team have got a place, including young Rachin Ravindra, who came into limelight by scoring 578 runs in 10 innings for New Zealand.
Michael Bracewell (Achilles), Matt Henry (hamstring), Lockie Ferguson (Achilles), James Neesham (ankle), Ben Lister (hamstring) and Henry Shipley (back) were not discussed for selection due to injury. Whereas fast bowler Trent Boult declared himself unavailable for the series.
The series will start from December 17 in Dunedin only. After this, the next two matches will be played in Nelson and Napier on 20 and 23 December respectively. The New Zealand team will gather in Dunedin on 14 December.
