"I have not yet signed the contract with the BCCI but the tenure has been discussed. Once I get the papers, I will sign," Dravid told reporters after the World Cup and contract review meeting on Thursday. As recently reported, Dravid has been offered an extension till the end of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and the United States in June.
Initially, the BCCI was reportedly keen on appointing former India left-arm fast bowler Ashish Nehra as the coach for the shortest format. But when Nehra turned it down, the BCCI decided that they wanted to repose their faith in Dravid in all three formats. According to the report, India captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar were in favor of Dravid continuing as head coach till the T20 World Cup. Nehra has made his mark in the T20 format after taking over as coach at IPL franchise Gujarat Titans, who won the title in their debut season in 2022 and then lost a thrilling final to Chennai Super Kings in 2023.
