Among all our neighboring countries, some countries of the Arabian Gulf are very special. One of these countries is Oman whose Sultan Haitham bin Tariq is going to visit India soon. This tour can take place during the second quarter of this month i.e. December. This visit of the Sultan of Oman is being considered very special because this is the first visit of an Arab Sultan to India amid the Israel-Hamas war. This visit is also special because there can be a special discussion between the leaders of the two countries on the situation in West Asia.
when will the tour happen
It is believed that the visit of the Sultan of Oman may take place in the second quarter of December i.e. between 15-16 December. Oman was India's guest country at the G-20 conference. But, the Omani Sultan could not come to India at that time. This tour is also being seen as a compensation for the Sultan. NSA Ajit Doval had invited the Sultan of Oman to visit India during his visit to Muscat.
Oman's stance on Israel-Hamas war
Like other Gulf countries, Oman is also tough on the Israel-Hamas war. He believes that Israeli military action in Gaza should be ended. Besides, the attacks in Gaza should also be investigated. In a conversation with US President Joe Biden last month, Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq talked about international humanitarian law and the importance of upholding and respecting the rights of the Palestinian people.
Relations between Oman and India
Talking about the past relations between the two countries, Oman is the first Gulf country to have established formal military relations with India. Oman is India's closest and most trusted defense partner in the Arabian Gulf. Also, Oman has allowed the Indian Navy access to its strategic port Duqm. Politically, Oman has been supporting India's aspiration for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council. There are approximately 700,000 Indians living in Oman.
