This trial will run in 59 matches to be held between December 2023 and April 2024. ICC gave this information by issuing a media release. ICC said, this is an effort to speed up the pace of play in international cricket.
According to this rule, the bowling team will have to bowl the first ball of the next over within 60 seconds after the end of one over. If the team is unable to start the next over within 60 seconds and this happens for the third time in an innings, a penalty of five runs will be imposed.
ICC General Manager Wasim Khan said, “We are constantly looking at ways to speed up the pace of play in international cricket.”
Earlier, ICC had changed the playing conditions in 2022. In which, if the team lags behind the stipulated time in over rate, then in the remaining overs, only 4 players will remain outside the radius of 30 yards of one of its fielders.
