At the same time, 26 people were being searched. Abdul Malik, head of West Sumatra's search and rescue agency, said rescue workers were busy recovering bodies of climbers and stranded people. However, many difficulties are being faced during this period.

There were 75 pedestrians in the area at the time of the explosion, but most of the people were evacuated safely. The authorities have issued an alert in the area, and have also banned people from going within 3 km of the pit. Abdul Malik said that earlier 49 climbers were evacuated from the area, many of whom were badly burnt.
