According to the potters who make the lamps, the clay for making items comes from the fields of Bahadurgarh and Jhajjar districts of Haryana. It includes black and yellow soil. Now there is shortage of soil. Soil comes from the fields. The soil that came out has already been sold. Black soil is the most expensive because it is extracted from ponds and lakes. Every year soil costs four to six thousand rupees per trolley. Now this soil is not available even at double the price. A potter makes about six trolley earthen lamps on Diwali.
