Effect of Boycott, Maldives is incurring a loss of Rs 8.64 crore every day

Ever since Indians have boycotted Maldives, the country is suffering losses worth crores of rupees every day. Maldives itself has said that due to the boycott, 44 thousand families of its country are in trouble. Due to the resentment of Indians, their tourism industry has been badly affected.

Maldives is the perfect example of how severe the punishment for a single mistake can be. Recently, some officials of the Maldives government had made objectionable comments regarding the Prime Minister's trip to Lakshadweep. After which Boycott Maldives has started trending. At the same time, now the effect of Boycott is also visible on Maldives. Maldives is losing crores of rupees every day due to India's boycott. It is obvious that the condition of a country whose only revenue comes from tourists and tourism is deteriorating. To manage the situation, Maldives has halved the cost of traveling there, yet Indians are not ready to go there.

Crisis on 44 thousand families

Before this whole controversy, Maldives was among the favorite tourist destinations of Indians. Every year lakhs of Indians used to visit there. But due to the boycott by Indians, Maldives itself has said that its 44,000 families are now in trouble. Due to the resentment of Indians, their tourism industry has been badly affected. Even on online travel portals, people have stopped looking for options to visit Maldives. Instead, searches for Lakshadweep have increased more than 34 times.

Daily loss of Rs 8.6 crores

Maldives is losing huge amount of revenue every day after the latest controversy. In 2023, the number of Indians traveling the world has increased rapidly and by 2030, India can reach the 4th position. Last year alone, Indians spent $380 million (about Rs 3,152 crore) in Maldives. This means that if Indians stop going there, Maldives may suffer a loss of Rs 8.6 crore per day.

Expenses halved

MakeMyTrip, a portal that has more than 50 per cent share in the online travel booking market, said that inquiries for Lakshadweep have increased by 3,400 per cent in the last one week. Seeing the indifference of tourists and to attract them, travel agents have also reduced the cost of visiting Maldives by 40 percent.

Flights also became cheaper

It is not that only the tour packages have declined. Flight fares from India to Maldives have also reduced. The fare which earlier used to be Rs 20 thousand one way, has now come down to Rs 12 to 15 thousand. On the website of MakeMyTrip, the fare from Delhi to Maldives is shown to be only Rs 8,215, that too on January 17. If you see the fare of Delhi-Chennai on this date, it is Rs 8,245.
