He was taken to the operation theater three times, but his surgery could not be done. For the fourth time, his surgery was completed within 12 hours. When he opened his eyes after the surgery, his mother said that he wanted to become a doctor. In an interview, he told that when he was undergoing surgery, his mother was praying and making a vow to God that if I got life for the second time, she would make me a doctor in the same hospital and she would like to serve the people. Will work. Dr. LBM Joseph performed complex surgeries on Prema and reconstructed every inch of her face.
Where did you study from?
It was not easy for Prema to go back to school. Wherever she went she was stared at and students were afraid to even talk to her. Somehow he completed his schooling and then took admission in Hubli Medical College. After completing MBBS from there, he did MD in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from CMC Ludhiana. After completing her studies, she returned to CMCH as a surgeon in 1989, thus fulfilling her mother's promise. Dr. Prema worked under Dr. Joseph and later became the head of the department of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the same hospital where she was treated.
This is how the journey of fire protection began
Dr. Prema received an award from America in 1998, whose prize money was $10,000, which was a huge amount at that time. He decided to start an NGO with this amount to help other burn victims. In 1999 Dr. Prema and her sister Chitra founded Agni Raksha, an NGO to provide medical treatment and holistic rehabilitation to low-income families, especially women, children and other burn victims. Since then Agni Raksha has helped more than 25,000 burn victims, including providing them medical treatment and helping them rebuild their lives.
Skills training is given after treatment
Through a fire protection NGO, she also provides skill training to burn victims after treating them. Patients are also given skill training by the NGO based on their physical abilities and interests so that they can rebuild their lives. His NGO also organizes awareness programs in schools and colleges about burn prevention, first aid and management.
