No intention to lift the ban

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday that at present there is no proposal before the government to remove restrictions on the export of wheat, rice and sugar. Goyal said that India also has no intention of importing wheat and sugar. . There is currently no proposal to lift the export ban on wheat, rice and sugar. Along with this, India will not import wheat and sugar.

Banned for one year

India had banned wheat exports in May 2022 to control rising domestic prices. After this, there is also a ban on export of non-Basmati rice from July 2023. The government had also issued an order to ban the export of sugar in October 2023. He also said that there is neither any plan nor need for import of wheat and sugar. Despite ban on export of non-Basmati rice, India is providing rice to its friendly countries for their food security needs. India has provided rice to countries like Indonesia, Senegal and Gambia.
