The debate on the petition related to starting puja in the basement of Somnath Vyas ji in the so-called Gyanvapi Mosque in the District Judge's court has been completed. By the order of District Judge dated January 17, District Magistrate Varanasi has become the custodian. The decision may come on January 31. In the petition of Shailendra Pathak, grandson of Somnath Vyas, it has been requested that the puja recitation, which had been stopped in the basement since 1993, should be restarted. This petition was filed in September 2023. On the other hand, the survey report of Archaeological Survey of India has been given to both the parties.

Let us tell you that Shailendra Kumar Pathak is demanding the right to perform darshan and worship in the basement of Vyas ji located in the Varanasi Gyanvapi campus. Shailendra Kumar Pathak says that before the year 1993, regular darshan and worship used to take place in the basement of Vyas ji. They say that now this right should be given to them in the same way. A case regarding this is going on in Varanasi District Court.

ASI survey continued for 92 days

On January 17, the District Judge has handed over the responsibility of the basement of Vyasji of Varanasi Gyanvapi complex to the Varanasi District Magistrate. Today this matter was heard and the hearing was completed. The court can give its verdict on this on January 31.

The survey work of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) was carried out for about 92 days in the Gyanvapi campus of Varanasi. After this, ASI asked for additional time to prepare the report four times. On behalf of ASI, time was sought from the District Court. On the night of 25 January, on the orders of Varanasi District Court, the ASI report was handed over to both the parties.

839 page ASI report

The report prepared by ASI was 839 pages long. After this report, the Hindu side said that the history of this entire Gyanvapi complex is related to Sanatan Dharma. While the Muslim side had claimed that a proper reply should be given only after reading the entire report, however, the Muslim side had termed the ASI report as being prepared on a one-sided basis.
