IAF's AN-32 aircraft went missing 8 years ago... now debris found in the sea

According to a PTI report, the Defense Ministry has said that examination of photographs taken recently by the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) of the National Institute of Ocean Technology has revealed that the wreckage of AN-32 found in the sea 310 km off the Chennai coast. Is of the plane. The photographs taken by the AUV were examined which were found to be similar to the AN-32 aircraft.

Debris points towards plane

The Ministry has further said that there is no information about any aircraft ever going missing in the area where the wreckage was found. In such a situation, there is no information about the disappearance of any other aircraft, perhaps it points towards the wreckage of the crashed An-32 aircraft of the Air Force.

Went missing on July 22, 2016

In fact, Indian Air Force's AN-32 aircraft with registration number K-2743 had mysteriously disappeared over the Bay of Bengal during an operation on July 22, 2016. There were 29 Air Force personnel on board the plane. After the accident, a major search operation was conducted by the Indian Air Force. For several days, helicopters and planes of the Air Force kept searching for the missing AN-32, but no information was found. No information was available about the personnel on board the plane.

AUV was deployed at the last location of the aircraft

National Institute of Ocean Technology which works under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. He deployed one of his AUVs at the place in the sea where the aircraft was last reported to be. The Defense Ministry said the discovery was made at a depth of 3,400 meters using multiple instruments including multi-beam sonar (sound navigation and ranging), synthetic aperture sonar and high-resolution photography.

Presence of debris about 140 nautical miles off the Chennai coast

The images taken by the AUV, when examined, indicated the presence of debris of a crashed aircraft on the seabed about 140 nautical miles (310 km) off the Chennai coast. However, now it remains to be seen whether the Indian Air Force itself conducts an operation to take out the debris or takes the help of some agency. No information has been given by the ministry in this regard.
