A Pakistani court on Tuesday accused former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi of marrying against Islamic law. According to media reports, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI) and his wife have denied all the allegations. This case was filed last month by Bushra's ex-husband Khawar Maneka.
Senior civil judge Qudratullah read out all the charges in the presence of Imran Khan in the high-security Adiala jail. During this time his wife was not present, which angered the judge because due to her absence the charges were postponed last time also.
Judgment reserved on Bushra Bibi's petition
A day before this, Islamabad High Court had reserved its decision on Bushra Bibi's petition to dismiss the case filed by Maneka. Last month, Maneka had moved a district and sessions court in Islamabad challenging the marriage of Imran Khan and Bushra.
Controversy regarding Imran Khan's marriage
Maneka had filed the petition a day after petitioner Mohammad Hanif withdrew a similar petition challenging the PTI chief's marriage. The controversy regarding Imran Khan's marriage increased further when Maneka said in an interview to a private news channel that Imran Khan married her during Bushra's Iddat.
What is Iddat?
In fact, if a Muslim woman's husband dies or she gets divorced, she has to observe Iddat for a certain period and during this period she cannot marry again.
