Journalist Saumya Vishwanathan murder case: Convicts challenge sentence, hearing in Delhi High Court on February 12

Delhi High Court sought response from the police on the petition of four convicts. Along with this, the High Court has also summoned the records of the trial court. The convicts in the journalist Soumya Vishwanathan murder case have filed a petition in the High Court against the lower court's decision. In this petition, the lower court's life imprisonment sentence has been challenged. Delhi High Court sought response from the police on the petition of the convicts. The bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Manoj Jain has issued a notice to the police on the final petition of four convicts Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljeet Singh Malik and Ajay Kumar.

Next hearing will be on 12th February

Along with this, the High Court has also summoned the records of the trial court. The next hearing in the case will be on February 12. Let us tell you that journalist Soumya Vishwanathan was shot dead on 30 September 2008 on Nelson Mandela Marg in South Delhi. The murder was committed when she was returning home from office in her car.

The lower court had sentenced life imprisonment

The police had claimed that Soumya was murdered for the purpose of robbery. In this case, the lower court had sentenced four convicts to life imprisonment. The police had arrested five accused - Ravi Kapoor, Baljeet Malik, Amit Shukla, Ajay Kumar and Ajay Sethi in connection with the murder. Following the court order, all the accused in this murder case are in jail since March 2009. The police had registered a case against all the accused under MCOCA.
