Mark Boucher gave a big statement on hosting SA20 in India, said- it is a good idea

Former South African wicketkeeper-batsman Mark Boucher wants SA20 to become as big a brand as the Indian Premier League. During a virtual media interaction, Boucher said that the IPL has boosted the careers of young players in India. If SA20 comes to India in future then it will be very beneficial for the league.

Mark Boucher said, "I think it's a good idea, I'm not against it. The IPL happened in South Africa and we can do the same because there are very good relations between the two cricket playing countries. However "The challenges of playing in India will be different, but it will still be great. Maybe Graeme Smith (SA20 commissioner) can work on that."

The former cricketer further said, "Despite being the first edition, it was successful; huge crowds turned out to watch high-quality cricket. One thing we can learn from the IPL is how it has promoted the youth in India. And that's exactly what we're trying to do here. It may still take a few seasons for us to come up, but I'm confident that this will help and promote South African cricket, just like the high-performance cricket of the IPL Will give."

The SA20 can be called a mini IPL as all six teams in the tournament include Joburg Super Kings, Durban Super Giants, Paarl Royals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, MI Cape Town and Pretoria Capitals. All these franchises belong to the owners of Indian Premier League teams. The second edition of the SA20 kicked off on 10 January 2024 and is certainly playing a vital role in showcasing young talent in South Africa. The first season of this league was won by Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
