The conflict between North and South Korea is nothing new. Despite many peace treaties, tension remains between the two countries. Now once again there has been a dispute between the two countries, where North Korea has fired more than 200 shells near the South Korean border. The world is already suffering the consequences of two wars. While the war between Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas is going on and there is no end in sight, North Korea, which has been silent till now, is also showing its eyes to its biggest enemy South Korea.
South Korea on Friday issued an evacuation notice to residents of Yeonpyeong Island near the North Korean border, citing concerns that the South Korean military would conduct live-fire exercises in the area. Meanwhile, a few hours ago the White House had accused North Korea that Russia had also used the missile sent from North Korea in the attack on Ukraine. Immediately after this statement by White House spokesperson John Kirby, North Korea fired more than 200 shells at South Korea. However, South Korea suffered no damage and the shells fell north of the Northern Limit Line (NLL), the de facto maritime boundary between the two countries.
Another battlefield?
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff say North Korea has fired 200 rounds in waters north of their disputed western maritime border, violating a 2018 military agreement. These bullets were fired near Yeonpyeong Island. South Korea described the North Korean exercises as an act of provocation. However, no one was injured in this exercise. People nearby have been asked to move to a safe place. The enmity between the two countries is not hidden from anyone. After this incident, a distinct fear has arisen among the people that another battlefield might be created.
What is the reason for this noise?
In the last 77 years, acts of hostility have always been going on between North and South Korea. After the Second World War, when Korea was freed from Japanese control, it got caught between the political maneuvers of America and the Soviet Union. Due to this it broke into two countries in 1948. There was a fierce war between these two in 1950, but even after that the bitterness is not showing any sign of ending.
