Plane crashes in Canada, 6 people killed, rescue and search operation continues


Six people lost their lives when a small plane carrying mine workers crashed on January 23 near Fort Smith in Canada's Northwest Territories. The cause of the accident is being ascertained. A day earlier, three people were killed and four were injured when a helicopter crashed in neighboring British Columbia, Canada.

On January 23, a small plane carrying mine workers crashed near Fort Smith in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Six people lost their lives due to this. Till now the reason for the plane crash is not known but investigation has been started.

The plane was headed towards the Diavik diamond mine of mining company Rio Tinto. The plane lost contact with air traffic control after taking off near Fort Smith at 8:50 am. After this the plane was found near the Slave River. The owner of the aircraft said that he has two types of Jetstream models from British Aerospace and both have the capacity to handle 19 people.

In a statement, Rio Tinto chief Jakob Stosholm said the company was devastated by the incident. We will assist the investigating officers in every possible way and find out how the incident happened. Public affairs officer Maxime Clichy and the Canadian military said Royal Canadian Air Force squadrons have been dispatched for rescue and search operations. Canadian politician from the Northwest Territories RJ Simpson has expressed condolences to the families of those injured in the accident. He said with a heavy heart, I express my condolences to the families, relatives and well-wishers of those who died in the accident.

Garth Eggenberger, chief coroner for the Northwest Territories, confirmed the deaths, saying he could not provide further information until the victims' families were informed. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says they have sent a team to the accident site to investigate.
