President of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, is on a five-day visit to India to strengthen India-United Nations relations. During this, he described India as a “valuable” member of the United Nations and praised India's diplomatic methods. He said he would always encourage India to maintain its principled stance and work to bridge divides to achieve lasting peace through India's dialogue and diplomacy.
President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, while praising India in a special conversation with news agency PTI, said that India is already a major player at the global level and in the United Nations. Francis said that even at this moment of great uncertainty and rising geopolitical tensions, conflict and climate change remain an existential threat to the global community.
'I look towards India in these challenging times'
Francis said one area in which India has unquestionably demonstrated true leadership is that the country contributes significantly to the UN's regular budget and consistently ranks as the top contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping operations . He said that this is a challenging time. As President of the General Assembly, I look to India for leadership in our effort to overcome the trust deficit between member states. He expressed hope that as a valued member of the United Nations, India will continue to play its meaningful role as it encourages other member states to do the same. I will also interact with youth, civil society organizations and think tanks in India.
Francis is on an official visit to India
Francis is on an official visit to India from January 22 to 26 and will hold bilateral discussions with the leadership and representatives of the Indian government. In addition, Francis will engage with civil society and major think tanks, conduct regional visits and participate in sustainability-related events. Apart from this, Francis will participate in India's Republic Day parade as a guest.
