Lakhs of people travel by Indian Railways. People also travel with more luggage for long distance journeys. But many times their luggage gets left in the train or gets lost in a hurry. In such a situation, many people do not complain about stolen or lost goods thinking that they will get it back or not…Actually, the truth is completely beyond this. In many ways this perception of people about Indian Railways is wrong. Indian Railways returns a huge amount of people's luggage every year. If you ever lose or miss your luggage, then let us tell you how to get it back…
complain here
If after getting down at your destination station or after going home, you come to know that your luggage has been left in the train or has been stolen, then first of all go to the station where you got down from the train. Meet the railway officials there and inform them about your luggage being left behind in the train. Also inform the Railway Police Force (RPF). If the goods are not found then lodge an FIR with RPF.
What to do if your luggage gets lost or stolen in a moving train?
If a passenger's luggage is stolen from the train on the way, then you should first contact the train conductor, coach attendant, guard or GRP escort. The FIR form will be provided to you by these people. After filling this form, it will be sent to RPF police station for necessary action. If you have to complete your journey, you can also give this complaint letter at the RPF help posts at any railway station.
Where does the Railways keep the goods?
If the Railways finds your lost luggage, in some cases the recovered luggage is delivered to the same station where the complainant has lodged the FIR. After that, the passenger is called and the luggage is returned after checking the necessary documents. If any expensive item is left behind, the Railways keeps it at the station for 24 hours after getting it back. After this it is sent to the zonal office.
Railway returns goods
Every year, Railways receives a large amount of unclaimed luggage in trains. This is the stuff that is left behind in the trains and no complaint about it is registered with the Railways. Therefore, the Railways is left with no means of delivering this unclaimed goods to its rightful owner. At the same time, when a complaint about the luggage is registered, the Railways informs its owner and returns it back.
