Man has been using gold and silver jewelery since ancient times. In ancient times, along with women, men also used to wear heavy gold and silver jewellery, which added to their beauty. Even today, the demand for jewelery remains the same, especially the attraction of gold jewelery remains the same among women.
Gold jewelery adds to the beauty of any woman. For this reason, most women like to wear gold jewelery daily. Even today, almost all women like to wear gold earrings in their ears and gold ornaments around their neck and also gold bracelets and rings in their hands to enhance their beauty. But if it comes to anklets and chutki or toe rings then the first choice of women is silver. Even though women may be laden with gold ornaments, they wear anklets made of silver only. There are both religious and scientific reasons behind this.
religious reasons
In Hindu religion, gold is considered a very sacred metal. Gold is considered to be the embodiment of Goddess Lakshmi, that is why many people worship gold jewelery on Diwali and on the night of Diwali, women of the house wear gold jewelery which is considered very auspicious. It is believed that wearing gold jewelery brings happiness and prosperity in the house.
It is believed that gold is very dear to Goddess Lakshmi and is also very dear to Lord Vishnu. For this reason also, women consider wearing gold on their feet as disrespect to Goddess Lakshmi. Along with this, it is also said that wearing gold ornaments on the feet angers Goddess Lakshmi, which brings poverty in the house.
scientific reasons
According to scientific point of view, both gold and silver are metals with different properties. Gold increases the body temperature, hence wearing gold anklets and toe rings can cause health problems. Silver provides coolness to the body and also keeps the body temperature balanced. It is also said that wearing silver anklets is beneficial in case of foot pain. For this reason also, women prefer to wear silver anklets and toe rings.
