In the history of the country and the world, International Women's Day is celebrated every year on 8th March i.e. Women's Day. Today's women are stronger and far ahead of men. Today in the Women's Day Special, we are going to tell you about such business women, who, starting from zero, have today built their own companies worth crores. Yes, we are talking about Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the female founder of Biocoin. Kiran is today included in the Forbes list of 100 most powerful women in the world. She never got a job in the beginning of her career just because she was a 'woman'. But he did not give up and started Biocon company 45 years ago, which today has a value of Rs 32,000 crore.

Didn't get the job because she was a woman

According to a BBC report, 'When Kiran Mazumdar Shaw was looking for a job, everyone rejected her because she was a woman.' It was 1978, when at the age of 25, she returned to India from Australia with a master's degree in brewing (the process of fermentation, which is generally used to make liquor). Despite having the qualifications, all the beer companies in India to which he applied said that 'it is not possible to take him on'.

He admitted that he was not comfortable hiring a woman as a brewer. When he could not find work anywhere in India, he had to go abroad and from here fate played such a game that after a few years he established his pharmaceutical business 'Biocon'.

Zero to Rs 32 thousand crore company

Today the market cap of this company is more than Rs 32000 crore and she is among the 100 most powerful women in the world in the Forbes list. She is the only woman in India who became a billionaire on her own. He was born in a middle class family in Bengaluru.

When he could not find work in India, he took up the job of a brewer in Scotland. Here he met Irish entrepreneur Leslie Auchincloss. Leslie wanted to start a pharmaceuticals business in India and was very impressed by Majumdar. He asked Majumdar to become his partner and lead the business.

Majumdar initially refused. But later he thought that 'I am the last person, I have no business experience and I do not have a single rupee to invest.' Leslie finally convinced him and Biocon was born in 1978.

Business started from here

Kiran Mazumdar started the business from a garage and invested $150 of his savings in it. At that time the value of one dollar was equal to about 8.5 rupees. In this way he started business with about Rs 1200. Once again her gender became a hindrance for her. Nobody wanted to work with a woman. He told, 'Not only men, even women did not want to work with a woman. They would come into the garage and see me. They think I am the secretary here. After meeting 40 candidates, she was able to hire her first employee, a retired garage mechanic.

Raising capital for the business was another challenge, because banks were not ready to give loans to start the business. She told, 'I was only 25 years old, so the banks thought that I was a girl who wanted to start a business that no one understood.' Finally in 1979 a banker agreed to give him a loan. This is the story of their struggle. The world knows what happened after this, because it was the success story of Biocon. Biocon was now ready to conquer the entire world.
