These days, India's defense sector is growing at a superfast speed like a bullet fired from a gun. The Government of India's 'Make in India' program is also showing its strength in this work. Let us know about it...
A few years ago, the Government of India had started the 'Make in India' initiative to promote the country's manufacturing sector. Now this program of the government is proving to be a boon for the defense sector of the country, which is giving superfast growth to this sector like a bullet fired from a gun.
The biggest success of 'Make in India' is seen in the defense sector of the country, because it has helped a lot in increasing the production of defense products in the country. In less than a decade, India has not only indigenousized most of the defense products, but has also become an exporter instead of their importer.
Government companies benefited the most
In the defense sector, the country's government defense companies benefited the most from the 'Make in India' initiative. At one time there were question marks about the capabilities of these companies, but now these companies are playing the most important role in the growth of the country's defense sector.
Just a few days ago, the Defense Minister of the country had thanked all the stakeholders of the defense sector for this success story. The country's defense export in the financial year 2023-24 has been worth Rs 21,083 crore. Whereas in the previous financial year 2022-23, the country's defense exports were only Rs 15,920 crore. That means a straight growth of 32.5 percent.
There is so much difference between UPA and NDA governments
If you look at the 10-10 year tenure of the current NDA government and the previous UPA government regarding the growth and exports of the defense sector, you will see a big difference. According to ET news, the country's defense export during the UPA tenure from 2004-05 to 2013-14 was Rs 4,312 crore. During the tenure of the current NDA government, the total export of this sector has been Rs 88,319 crore. This directly shows a growth of 21 times.
Although the private sector has played an important role in giving growth to the defense sector, the government companies of this sector have also not lagged behind. If the contribution of private sector is 60 percent, then the contribution of government companies is also 40 percent.
From guns to drones are being made in India
Many big Indian companies like L&T, Godrej and Adani are manufacturing many types of defense products in the country. This includes small guns, gun bullets, drones and night vision devices. At the same time, HAL and other government companies are also engaged in making the country self-reliant in the defense sector.
