A nine-year-old girl, a native of Kerala in South India, was eating with her family at a restaurant in Kingsland High Street area of Hackney. Motorcycle riders opened indiscriminate fire from outside the restaurant. Three other people, including the girl of Indian origin, were injured in this firing. Their condition is critical and all of them are being treated in the hospital.

She is admitted to the hospital in critical condition after being shot in a drive-by shooting from a motorcycle in East London. The Metropolitan Police said that the girl was eating with her family at a restaurant in Kingsland High Street area of Hackney when the firing took place on Wednesday night. Three unidentified people aged 26, 37 and 42, sitting outside the restaurant, were taken to the hospital after being injured due to the bullets and their condition is said to be stable.
Met Police Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway said in relation to the incident that the nine-year-old girl was eating inside the restaurant with her family. She was shot and is admitted to hospital in critical condition. Our condolences are with her and her family and they are being assisted by specialist officers.
He said that he does not think that the girl and the injured people knew each other. She has become a victim of the nature of indiscriminate firing. Such incidents happen suddenly. Police have started investigating the matter and have appealed to the public for help.

Meanwhile, reports coming in from the Malayali community in London identify the girl as Liselle Maria, daughter of Vinay and Ajesh, both residents of Gothuruthu in Kochi. They were dining in a busy area of East London when the shooting incident took place.
DCS Conway said he was concerned locals would be extremely distressed by the incident. An urgent investigation has been launched to identify and arrest those responsible. He said police and officers were at the scene within minutes of the shooting being reported. The motorcycle used in the shooting was recovered a short distance away on Kingsland High Street and Colveston Crescent, and was stolen.

He said the investigation was still in its early stages and police said they were keeping an open mind about the motive. Police have appealed to locals to provide footage taken from phones or other devices. Police said there would be a significant police presence, including armed officers, in the area as part of efforts to tackle violence and gun crime.
