In an interview released by CSK, the franchise's CEO Kashi Vishwanathan was asked what the future holds for MS Dhoni. He said, "I don't know, only Dhoni can answer this question. We respect his decision and leave everything to him and you all know that he makes his decisions and announcements at the right time. We hope that when he decides, we will get the decision but we are hopeful that he will be available for Chennai next year as well. This is the expectation of me and the fans of the team."

Kashi Vishwanathan has indirectly revealed that MS Dhoni will be seen playing in the next IPL season. However, MS Dhoni left for his home Ranchi immediately after Chennai's journey ended in the league stage. MS Dhoni has not officially announced his retirement from IPL, but looking at his increasing age and fitness, many former players have speculated that Dhoni has played his last IPL match. MS Dhoni thrashed the bowlers in the final overs this year and hit many sixes and fours.
